How to easily enter safe mode in windows 8

May 26, 2013 Leave a comment

windows-8-logoOne of the comments I received this week was

“How do I get to safe mode in windows 8 ?”

Now I have yet to enter safe mode on my test Win 8 virtual machine but I decided to investigate the problem to save people some time in future.

After a quick google search and testing with my Win 8 virtual machine the best way I found was proved by Microsoft themselves and can be found at the following link

Which will show you how to add a safemode to the bootmgr which lets you gain access to the windows 8 safe mode.

Using AppAware to find software on Google Play

May 5, 2013 Leave a comment

This week blog update is about a little android application that I have been playing with on my test nexus 7 and has proved quite useful in suggesting other android applications I may want to use and displays applications that I would have never thought about using.

As you can guess from the logo on the right App Aware is the best alternative to the Android Market (Google Play Store) for finding the best new Android apps and games and it

AppAware suggests applications based on number of times downloaded by other people, applications that you have download or applications that your friends have downloaded.

You can install it on your android device by going to google play and searching for AppAware. release Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) on the Arnova 10 G2

Arnova 10g2

Arnova 10g2

Well the team over at have manged to create an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) for the old Arnova 10 G2 from the website.

“Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) on the Arnova 10 G2, it’s there, finally !
We have an improved an existing ICS firmware to add root, Google Play Store support, CWR Recovery, init.d like scripts, 2 GB storage space for apps and few bugs fixes to the Arnova 10 G2”

Please be aware that the  Arnova 10 G2 has limited resources, such as 512 MB of RAM and older version ARM chip and as such  is a bit too low to offer perfectly smooth ICS operation but is vast improvement over the gingerbread default O/S

Installing the new Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) on the Arnova 10 G2

You will need to go to the following website

Go to the Website and read the install instructions and download the custom firmware update and rockchip flashing tool

You also need to read the following guide about using the rockchip flashing tool

If the above does not work then to get the Arnova 10g2 in to recovery mode take a read of the following blog

When I first tried this on my Arnova 10 g2 after I got the formatting system on the Arnova screen with the little android it then went to a graphic of a circle with CUSTOM FIRMWARE and then nothing happened this was because I push the upgrade button and not the restore button on the rockchip flashing tool.
