Installing Minecraft on Raspberry Pi

February 13, 2013 Leave a comment Go to comments

Minecraft has finally been ported to the Raspberry Pi And it’s completely free to use.

To get it up and running you first need to set up your own Raspberry Pi with the standard “wheezy” image

If you haven’t set XWindows to start automatically upon boot, type in “startx” to get to GUI screen

To setup your Raspberry Pi to auto boot into the GUI take a look at this link

Raspberry pi – Setting up auto-login and auto-loading the gui

Use a LXTerminal to open a new terminal window and do the following

sudo wget https://s3.amazonaws.com/assets.minecraft.net/pi/minecraft-pi-0.1.1.tar.gz

(this will down the Minecraft file to the Raspberry Pi)

tar -zxvf minecraft-pi-0.1.1.tar.gz

(this will decompress the downloaded files)

cd mcpi

(to install the minecraft server on to the Raspberry Pi)

(to run the minecraft program)

If all goes well you should see the following on your raspberry pi

Happy Minecrafting 🙂
