There may be a time where you need to add a another user account which can be done by running the following command

sudo useradd jsmith

(you will need to enter a password for the new user account)

you will also be asked for user information but you can just enter through it and “y” to confirm

pi@raspberrypi ~ $ sudo adduser jmsith
Adding user `jmsith’ …
Adding new group `jmsith’ (1003) …
Adding new user `jmsith’ (1002) with group `jmsith’ …
Creating home directory `/home/jmsith’ …
Copying files from `/etc/skel’ …
Enter new UNIX password:
Retype new UNIX password:
passwd: password updated successfully
Changing the user information for jmsith
Enter the new value, or press ENTER for the default
Full Name []:
Room Number []:
Work Phone []:
Home Phone []:
Other []:
Is the information correct? [Y/n] y

The next thing you need to do is create a home directory for the account by running the following command.

sudo mkdir /home/jsmith

We now need to assign the permissions so that our user account has permission to save to there home directory by running the following command

sudo chown jsmith:users /home/jsmith

To test this account works logoff your standard account and log back in with your new account.
