How to correct Windows 8 app stuck on pending

February 6, 2013 Leave a comment Go to comments

windows-8-logoWhen working on a test windows 8 system, I had a Windows 8 App update stuck on “Pending” status even after a leaving it for a week.

To workaround this problem use the following from a command prompt running as administrator.

net stop wuauserv

(stops windows update service)

rename c:\windows\softwaredistribution softwaredistribution.old

(Rename the Windows App Download folder to .old forcing Windows to create a new fresh download folder)

net start wuauserv

(starts windows update service and downloads a fresh copy of the app)

If you get a “access is denied” when trying to rename the folder check to see if the windows store is still open or switch to safe mode and change the folder that way.

It work time to time, when it stop have to use these command. Wish they can cut down price for expensive notebook in half, majority user fixing software. And new windows need new router too, otherwise connection limited…

with the same pending stuck problem. I tried the other suggestions on this post, to no avail.

    HOWEVER, THIS WORKED FOR ME!

Control Panel – System and Security – Find and Fix Problems – System Security – Find and Fix Problems with Windows Update – (after fail) Try Troubleshooter as Administrator.

    Resolved the following the problems:

Potential windows update database error detected 0×80070490 – FIXED

Windows update components must be repaired – FIXED

      AL :

After all your shouting in capital letters. Can you please explain your solution better.
Where is this ‘Download’ folder in Windows 8. I can’t find any download folder where Apps are sitting and waiting to be installed like you said… can you give more details ???

Thanks, the renaming of the SoftwareDistribution folder, method worked. The only catch was I had to make sure Microsoft Store app was closed otherwise you get an error when you try to rename the folder. Next run the command prompt as Administrator and enter the commands as mentioned in the blog.
